A PDF editor you can host inside your own network

PdfCanvas is a static site and a library, not a SaaS. Put it behind your own domain, embed it in an internal app, and remove the question of where documents are stored.

What you deploy

The editor is HTML, CSS, JavaScript and WebAssembly. Build the site, copy the output to any static host, and it runs. There is no application server, no database, and no outbound call from the editor to a third party.

That also means it works on an intranet with no internet access, which is usually the first requirement in finance, legal and healthcare teams.

Embedding it in an existing app

Install the npm package, mount PdfCanvasEditor on a container element, and point the worker and PDFium options at files you serve yourself. The editor inherits your layout, and the document never leaves the page.

npm i pdfcanvas pdfjs-dist pdf-lib @embedpdf/pdfium

import { PdfCanvasEditor } from "pdfcanvas/editor";

const editor = new PdfCanvasEditor(document.querySelector("#app")!, {
  workerSrc: "/pdfjs/pdf.worker.min.mjs",
  pdfiumWasmUrl: "/pdfium/pdfium.wasm",
  fontAssetsUrl: "/fonts/",
  locale: "en",
  brandName: "Your product",
  brandHref: "/",
  autosave: { key: "contracts" },
});

await editor.open(file);

What it does not replace

This is an editor for human edits: text, images, shapes, signatures, highlights and pages. It is not a document compliance platform. AcroForm filling, certified signatures, OCR and secure redaction are outside the current scope, and the comparison page lists the gaps.

Frequently asked questions

+Do I need a backend?

No. The editor is entirely client-side. You only need a static file host.

+Can I remove the PdfCanvas branding?

Yes. Pass brandName and brandHref, or omit the header elements you do not want. The MIT license does not require visible attribution.

+How do updates work?

Install a new version and redeploy. There is no migration step and no server to restart.

+Is there enterprise support?

No paid support is offered today. The repository is the support channel, and the code is small enough to audit internally.
